How Do I Find A Church Home That's For Me?

I'm so glad you clicked on this blog.
I'm glad because it's a sign that you are looking for truth. You are looking for more of God. You are wanting to have a deeper connection to God and connect with His people. That is a major accomplishment within itself. God wants that for you too. So keep reading and praying.

I'll share my experience with finding my church home of 6 years and give you some tips on how to find one.

About 6 years ago I found myself with a feeling of needing more for my life. When I looked around I didn't see pure religion nor Christianity.. All I saw was toxicity. All that I was connected to was toxic people and situations. My was full of depression, anxiety, anger, mind battles, low self esteem, poverty, drugs addiction, alcohol, and much more.

I had just moved to a new city. Sacramento,CA. Never lived here before but this was where I needed to be. I had tried to start fresh, but life after a break up of almost a 2 year relationship got the best of me. I went into a depression and found myself addicted to substances and alcohol to cope with my reality. To find comfort I chose to visit some churches. I visited one church for month. It was nice, but I didn't connect with anyone there. I desired to be baptized. I was baptized before at the age of 12. But I was 20 years old and I had experienced and indulged in a lot of things from 12 to 20. I needed a new start. The church I was attending, I didn't see anyone being baptized. So I reached out and asked someone at the church. I was told to write my name on a piece of paper with my phone number. I was seeking but I didn't have success in that area at this church. I can say, I didn't know protocols or even how church worked. I didn't grow up in that atmosphere, yet I knew how important that was to baptized because my mother grew up in church with her mother (my grandmother of course lol). My family definently taught me the importance of God and the Holy Spirit. I liked the church and even was close to joining and making it my home, but for some reason I just didnt feel led to.

I wind up searching Google for churches. I did some research on what they believed and I came upon one.

I attended another and it was off the chain!!! (It was great lol). The place was full of worship and praise and it was beautiful. It was full of Latinos and it was Spanish speaking but they translated for me. It was great but I knew it wasn't home.

So back at square one on the lookout, but I just sat back and didn't attend any church. I was referred to a church by a close friend I was talking to at the time. I asked him because his uncle was a minister at his home church in Los Angeles. I went the exact week they had service and it was amazing.

The pastor ended the service asking if anyone  needed baptism. And I was the first person to walk to the front of the church. I was so ready for something new in life that I was about to dunk myself under the water in the baptismal pool😂😂😂 I was so ready lol. So January 6th, 2013 I was baptized.

I liked the church but wasn't quite sure if I should stay. I decided to go back the next week.

I wanted to speak in tongues as evidence for being filled with the Holy Spirit. This is how I knew God called me to make this church my church home.

The pastor called for a prayer night for those seeking to be filled. He canceled bible study and used that night for a service to be full of prayer and worship and those that were seeking the Holy Spirit, would pray to receive it. The close friend who referred me, told me to fast and he was doing it with me. So for 24 hours, we fasted from any type of food together the day before the prayer service.

During the end of the prayer service. I was filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. I was so encouraged and felt brand new just 10 days later of being baptized. I haven't left since. Its 2019, and I'm still at this church.

I felt God did that just for me. And God led me to join the church. I have been teaching bible studies for about 4 years now.

Heres some tips on finding a church that is for you:
●Go. Just go to one but stay opened to checking out other churches.
●Research what the church you are interested in believes. They should have a website. Google them.
●Fast and Pray about a breakthrough
●Pay attention to the pastor and what he preaches, it may just for you.
●No church is perfect (Its full of flawed humans who need a savior)
●Trust that God will lead you to where you need to be.
●Don't be discouraged. You're moving in the right direction.
●After searching, and still nothing, be still and wait on the Lord  (Read your word and stay prayerful during your stillness).
●Visit for a month, then make your decision.

You got this! Don't feel down, as long as you are connected to God, He will connect with you.
